Carpet Cleaning San Diego
Wall-to-wall carpeting will be one of the biggest home improvement investments you'll ever make. To protect this investment, you need to take care of it. Vacuuming thoroughly at least once a week is key to maintaining your carpeting because dirt is an abrasive that acts like sandpaper on your carpet. Every time you step on the carpet, you grid dirt deep into the carpet fibers. This cuts the fibers, causing it to wear out faster. It is also important to clean up spills as soon as possible. Otherwise, they'll set in and ruin your carpet. The other main component in proper carpet maintenance is to have it professionally steam cleaned on a regular basis.
Dry dirt and mud are your carpet's enemies, and vacuuming alone will not get the dirt out of your carpeting. In addition to that, you bring in such contaminants as pollens, fungus, bacteria, air pollution, cigarette smoke, car exhaust and dust. These make your carpet a breeding ground for dust mites. Did you know that tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 different chemical compounds, 43 of which can cause cancer? Even if you don't smoke or allow anyone to smoke in your house, these chemicals get in your shoes, which is how you end up tracking in your house and on your carpet. Young children, the elderly and people with asthma, allergies and other respiratory ailments are typically sensitive to pollen, cigarette smoke and dust mites, which is why it's important to have your carpets professionally cleaned on a regular basis.
Global Carpet uses low moisture hot water extraction when cleaning your carpets. Hot water extraction, also known as "steam cleaning" is a term used to describe a method that involves spraying a hot water solution at high pressure onto the carpet and simultaneously sucking out the water and dirt that comes up from the carpet fibers. Low moisture hot water extraction provides all the benefits of hot water extraction, but uses much less water. That's why it's the ideal method for deep cleaning your San Diego carpets. While the reservoir levels are up more than they have been, California is still under drought conditions, and we want to do our part to conserve water and our natural resources.
Among the manufacturers that recommend hot water extraction are Shaw Carpet Ind, the largest carpet manufactuerer in the world. DuPont and many other manufacturers actually require the hot water extraction method for carpet cleaning to honor their warranties. Chances are, your carpeting manufacturer also requires that hot water extraction be used to clean your carpets. Many carpeting trade unions also recommend hot water extraction, including the Institute for Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), California Fabric Institute (CFI) and the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA). We also use the more powerful truck-mount extraction, rather than portable units whenever possible. This is because truck-mount systems are much more powerful and they are more efficient at cleaning. Plus, with portable units, there is a much higher risk of over-shampooing and over-wetting, which can cause stains to wick up (reappear) and cause premature wear and tear on your carpeting.
So, now the question is, how often should your carpeting be professionally cleaned in order to honor manufacturer warranties and protect your carpeting from premature wear and tear. There are many factors that determine how often carpeting should be cleaned, including how much traffic the carpeting gets and whether or not there are pets, small children or smokers in the building. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration (IIRC) recommends that carpeting be cleaned at least once every other year, and they provided this handy chart to help you determine how often you should have yours cleaned:
|Residential Carpet Cleaning Frequency Chart|
|Traffic Soil Rating||Carpet Owner / Maintainer||Professional Carpet Cleaner / Restorer|
|Vacuuming||Spot Cleaning||Heavy-Use Area Cleaning||Restorative Cleaning|
|Light Soil||1x per week||Daily or as soon as spots are noticed.||Traffic areas every 12 to 18 months.||Every 2 years or per manufacturer warranty.|
|Normal Soil (families with children, elderly)||1 to 2x per week||Daily or as soon as spots are noticed.||Traffic areas every 6 to 12 months||Annually|
|Heavy Soil (family with pets, smoking)||2 to 4x per week||Daily or as soon as spots are noticed.||Traffic areas every 3 to 6 months||Semi-Annually (2x annually)|
|Extreme Conditions (large families, multiple pets)||Daily||Daily or as soon as spots are noticed.||Traffic areas every 2 to 3 months||Quarterly (4x annually)|
